Sabres In Focus: Jason Pominville

#29 Jason Pominvillepommers1

The Pominville population has continued to grow in Western New York and beyond. Jason has become a fan favorite in Buffalo, earning him his very own section in HSBC Arena.

The fans keep track of his goals every season with a sign that reads “Pominville Population”, adding a goal every time the winger scores.

Pominville was drafted in the second round (55th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. To begin the 2005-2006 season, Pominville was waived by the Sabres. After clearing waivers, Pominville went down to the minors until he was called up a couple months into the season.

Pominville scored his most memorable goal of his career that season, when he scored a shorthanded overtime goal to defeat the Senators in game five. After improving to 68 points the following season, Pominville made a name for himself in 2007-2008. He scored at nearly a point-per-game with 80 points in 82 games. In the absence of departed co-captains Chris Drury and Daniel Briere from the previous season.

The Sabres have signed Pominville to a five year extension, earning just around $1 million a year.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
