Connolly Scores OT Winner

After two tough losses, the Sabres played to win on Friday night against Philadelphia. Buffalo got on the board first with a goal from Thomas Vanek. Vanek used goaltender Michael Leighton to bank the puck off of him and into the net for his 19th goal of the season.

Raffi Torres came onto the Sabres with the lead in goals, but Vanek tied him with Friday’s goal. After Philadelphia tied the game, Tim Connolly gave the puck away, allowing the Flyers to take a 2-1 lead in the third.

Adam Mair was able to tie the game up with eight minutes remaining, eventually sending the game to overtime. Connolly was able to make up for his mistake, by netting the game winning goal and giving Buffalo the victory.

With the win, the Sabres moved into first place in the Northeast Division, leading Ottawa by one point with two games in hand. Ryan Miller made 27 saves on the night, giving Buffalo a much needed win.

In his debut, Torres assisted on the game winning goal. Lindy Ruff had him playing on a couple of different lines, so there is no solidified spot as of yet for him on the roster.

Drew Stafford left the game with a lower body injury and is expected to miss some time. The Sabres will head to New York to take on the Rangers this Sunday.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
