Sabres 5, Devils 4 (SO)

Kovalchuk loses puck in shootout to give the Sabres a 5-4 win.

The battle of the two worst teams in the league turned out to be an exciting match. Just when the Devils thought it couldn’t any worse, they found a way. The $100 million superstar was booed off the ice by his own fans.

Ilya Kovalchuk needed to score in order to keep the shootout going, but lost control of the puck, allowing the Sabres to leave New Jersey with two points. In case you missed it, here it is:

There’s what $100 million can buy.

The Sabres have won two in a row, which is the first time they have put a winning streak together this season. Jhonas Enroth earned his second victory of the season and is surprising many Sabres fans with his performance.

Lindy Ruff earned a win in his 1,000th game. He became the first in NHL history to have coached 1,000 games with his first team.

The Sabres will play the Rangers on Thursday night and Enroth is likely to get the start once again.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
