Sabres waive Nathan Gerbe

The news has yet to be confirmed by the Buffalo Sabres, but the news came across the wire as soon the NHL released news of waiver transactions today.

Gerbe was set to head into the final year of his deal at 1.45 million dollar cap hit. He was set to become a restricted free agent following the 2013-14 season.

It is expected that once Gerbe clears waivers, he will be bought out and become an unrestricted free agent.

Once we get confirmation and a statement from the Sabres, we will be sure to pass it along.

UPDATE:
This buyout will cost the Sabres an estimated $308,333 over the next two seasons, but it takes Gerbe’s $1.45 million dollar cap hit immediately off the books. Also, when Gerbe’s agent was reached for comment, he stated that both him and Nathan had no warning of this buyout.
