Report: Buffalo to host 2018 IIHF World Juniors

Multiple sources are reporting that the World Junior Championships are returning to Buffalo in 2018. Back in September, Buffalo was selected as one of three finalists, along with Minnesota and Pittsburgh, as to which city the Juniors would go to in 2018.

With the Harborcenter up and running, it would serve as the secondary location. Of course, the First Niagara Center would be the primary.

Buffalo hosted the Juniors once already, in 2011, when Russia defeated Canada to win gold. The 2016 Juniors will take place in Helsinki, Finland, while the 2017 WJC is set for Toronto and Montreal.

USA Hockey is expected to make the announcement on Friday at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Along with that, there is speculation there may be an outdoor component as well.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
