Okposo’s high expectations

Okposo

Former New York Islander Kyle Okposo had his press conference on Thursday morning and spoke with the media about his expectations for the upcoming season.

A few different issues were raised, but Okposo responded with optimistic answers every time. One of the biggest questions of the day was about Jimmy Vesey and whether or not he wants to play for Buffalo. When Okposo was asked what he would tell Vesey he said, “I would tell him we’re going to be a good team for a long time. We’re going to be contenders.”

Okposo is expected to play on a line with Ryan O’Reilly and Jack Eichel and said he has already thought about it a lot.

“Ryan is one of the smartest centers in the league, and Jack’s ceiling is only going up. I’ve seen those guys play a lot.”

Of course, Okposo has already made it clear that he came here because of the team’s potential, but he added another comment today.

“You play the games to raise banners, and I feel this team has the ability to do that.” – Kyle Okposo

After taking Drew Stafford’s No. 21, the former Sabre had something to say about it, jokingly. Okposo’s response:

“I’ll take it down out of the rafters for you.”

The Sabres are expected to meet with Jimmy Vesey today, although he has said he won’t make a decision until after August 15.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
