Sabres fire Bylsma, Murray

If Wednesday’s reports about Jack Eichel and Dan Bylsma were shocking, Thursday’s announcement might have topped that.

Terry Pegula and the Buffalo Sabres have relieve both Bylsma and general manger Tim Murray of their duties.

“After reviewing the past season and looking at the future of our organization, Kim & I decided to relieve Tim Murray and head coach Dan Bylsma. Want to thank Tim and Dan for their hard work and efforts they have put in during their tenures with the club.”

Pegula will address the media on Friday at 10 a.m. and says the team has begun the process to fill these positions immediately.

The Sabres have a lot of work ahead of them now. Murray was handling a rebuild and brought in some big names. A new GM may have different ideas and could make some changes as well.

Robin Lehner’s future with the team could be in jeopardy as Murray may have been his biggest supporter.

Former coach Lindy Ruff was recently relieved of his duties in Dallas.

Other coaches who are out there as candidates:

Michel Therrien
Dean Lombard
Jack Capuano
John Stevens
Darryl Sutter
Jason Botterill

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
