Fedun recalled from Rochester

The Sabres have called up defenseman Taylor Fedun as they prepare to take on the Vancouver Canucks tonight at Key Bank Center. After the injury bug bit Buffalo hard last season, Fedun was relied upon to pick up some of the slack on the blue line. The 29-year-old journeyman will take Josh Gorges place on the roster as he remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

In 27 games last season with the big club, Fedun recorded seven assists and was a +3. Given the Sabres goal differential in 2016-17′, plus-rated defensemen were a rarity on the roster, which is a testament to Fedun’s two-way, puck-responsible style of play.

Struggles on the back-end have been well documented this season. Hopefully Fedun can help spark much needed improvement.
