The 2018-2019 season is finally here and captain Jack Eichel and the Sabres host the Boston Bruins tonight at KeyBank Center.

Season series: Tonight’s matchup is the first of four between these teams this season. They’ll meet again twice in December and then once more in January.

Buffalo notes: The Sabres are trying to change the culture as it’s been a frustrating drought. The rebuild has taken much longer than fans had hoped, but with Rasmus Dahlin’s arrival, there’s a new belief. Getting off to a strong start this season would be a huge step for this team, since they have struggled out of the gate in recent years.

Boston notes: The Boston Bruins opened their regular season last night against the Washington Captials, but it was #ALLCAPS, all night. Washington raised their banner and came out looking like the Stanley Cup Champions they were last year. Tuukka Rask was pulled after allowing five goals, and Jaroslav Halak came in to finish the game.

Starting goaltenders: Carter Hutton will make his Sabres debut. He’ll be wearing #40 and will go against Halak. The Bruins had announced earlier in the week that Halak would get the call tonight, but they definitely didn’t expect Rask to get lit up on Wednesday.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
