Big test ahead against Tampa Bay

⏰ 7:30 p.m.   ? NBCSN   ? WGR550

After two straight wins, Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres will host Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lighting at KeyBank Center.

Season series:

The Buffalo Sabres will host the Tampa Bay Lightning for their first meeting of the season. Last year was a back and forth dog fight that ended with each team winning two games. While 10 teams separate Tampa Bay and Buffalo in the standings, they are only five points apart from each other, making tonight’s game a big one for both sides.

Buffalo notes:

With a 9-6-2 record, the Buffalo Sabres are fun to watch again, and if the last two come-from-behind wins against the Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks didn’t prove that to you, you may be missing something. The Sabres look to officially start a winning streak with three consecutive victories. This time, against one of the top teams in the league.

Keep an eye out for Casey Mittelstadt and Sam Reinhart to start a hot streak of their own. They should both be coming into tonight’s game with a huge boost of confidence after their late game heroics in their shootout win against the Canucks.

Tampa Bay notes:

The Lightning are coming into tonight’s game with a different taste in their mouth after they lost to the Ottawa Senators, 6-4, on Saturday. Even with their most recent game being a loss, Tampa Bay still sits 2nd in the league with a 12-4-1 record for 25 points. Look for them to come out fast and try to take the Sabres out of the game early.
