Sabres head into Christmas break victorious

The Buffalo Sabres defeated the Anaheim Ducks last night at home by a score of 3-0 behind a stellar performance by goaltender Linus Ullmark.

After a 1st period power play goal by rookie phenom, Rasmus Dahlin, the Sabres and Ducks battled back and forth all game until Jeff Skinner broke the game open with a beautiful backhander with just over 9 minutes remaining in the 3rd period for his 26th goal of the season.

Linus Ullmark continued his Saturday dominance with a 40 save shutout that now has him at 8-1-3 on the season.

The win last night now puts the Sabres in a tie for 3rd in the eastern conference with 47 points in 37 games (21–11-5).

“Really liked our start. The shot mentality. We played with desperation and generated energy. We found a way. I’m happy we ended with a win going into the break.” – Phil Housley

Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart both recorded 2 assists as their development continues in a big way this season.

John Gibson kept Anaheim in the game that was dominated by Buffalo from start to finish by saving 30-32 shots. This was the Ducks’ 3rd straight loss.

During the 3rd period, Rick Jeanneret was taken to Buffalo General Medical Center due to an unknown health scare. News broke this morning that RJ is doing alright and expects to be back in the booth after Christmas break. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family on a speedy recovery.

Buffalo will be back in action on December 27th as they visit Ryan O’Reilly and the St. Louis Blues at 8:00 p.m.
