NHL Draft Lottery Tonight

Who knew we’d be here again after a 10-game winning streak in November? It’s not great, but the good news is that the Sabres will have a high pick in the upcoming draft in Vancouver.

Tonight’s lottery is being held in Toronto, Ontario, and Buffalo has the fifth-highest odds of winning the first overall pick at 8.5%.

In previous years, the NHL had a system of announcing the picks that had them go down from picks No. 15 all the way to No. 1. It was a little confusing at times, but this year’s method might make more sense.

The NHL will have just three drawings, one for each of the top three picks. Then, the remaining teams will be assigned a pick based on the number of regular season points.

All we can do at this point is hope. Jason Botterill and the Sabres had luck (finally) go their way last season when they got the No. 1 pick in Rasmus Dahlin. Jack Hughes is the expected first overall pick this summer.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
