Can you believe it?
The Buffalo Sabres rallied from two goals down in the third period and defeated the Nashville Predators, 5-4, on Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena.
Jack Eichel put the finishing touch on an end-to-end goal that dazzled fans. Eichel saw an opening and sped up down the ice, made one quick move and ripped a shot by Juuse Suaros to end it.
It’s the third straight game in which the Sabres have come from behind and won in overtime, which marks only the second time in franchise history that it has happened.
Buffalo has not had a lead in any of the last three games. However, they’ve gained six of six points.
Kyle Okposo knotted the game at four with just over a minute to go as Robin Lehner was pulled in favor of an extra attacker. Okposo was covered well, but managed to reach around the defenseman and knock one into the corner for his 15th of the season.
The Sabres kept matching the Predators’ offense, tying the game on three separate occasions. The Predators opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal from Filip Forsberg, but surprisingly that was the only goal scored on special teams for either side.
Zemgus Girgensons, Eichel and Brian Gionta each had a goal that tied that game at one point.
Lehner did not have his best game in net as he let in two soft goals. The team bailed him out, though.
Head coach Dan Byslma likely wouldn’t be a fan of the opposing team scoring first, but it’s happened in each of the last three games. Buffalo has kept battling in each of them and are showing some real positive signs.
The Eastern Conference is clustered with six teams having 49 points. The Sabres are four points out of a playoff spot behind the Toronto Maple Leafs, but that could very well change after Wednesday’s games.
The Sabres have one more game remaining before their All-Star break. They will take on the Dallas Stars on Thursday night. Puck drop for that game is scheduled for 8:30 pm.
