Sabres Alert

Sabres trade Scandella, acquire Frolik

Botterill makes two quick trades on Thursday night

The Buffalo Sabres have traded Marco Scandella to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2020. That pick is originally from the San Jose Sharks.

Scandella played two and a half seasons for Buffalo after seven years with the Minnesota Wild. He is scheduled to be a UFA at the end of the season, so the Sabres managed to get something from him.

The Sabres took that fourth-round pick and traded it to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Michael Frolik.

Frolik has played with four teams to this point in his career, most recently with the Flames for five seasons. He’s a two-time 20-goal scorer but has just 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 38 games this season.

Buffalo had a surplus of defenseman, so this at least allows them to clear things up on the blue line a little.
