Hurricanes claim Rattie

The St. Louis Blues placed forward Ty Rattie on waivers Tuesday afternoon, meaning the rest of the league has 24 hours to submit a claim for him.

UPDATE: The Carolina Hurricanes have claimed Rattie off waivers.

He’s an interesting case and many have said that Buffalo should be one of those teams submitting a claim. Rattie has just 29 games of NHL experience, with four goals and four assists with the Blues.

In the AHL, though, he’s been performing very well over the last few years. In 196 games he has 69 goals and 68 assists for 137 points.

Rattie is almost 24 years old and a 180 pound right winger from Calgary, Alberta.

Blues’ writer Dan Buffa had to say this about Rattie:

“Rattie played in 13 games last year and scored 4 goals and produced 6 points. He has produced at the minor league level and has nothing left to prove there. Perhaps that is why he never went back to Chicago. One thing is clear and that is St. Louis isn’t going to put him to use. They need to purge these kind of fringe talents that will simply go to waste if not properly utilized. Rattie’s best bet is finding a new home.” – Dan Buffa

Rattie would be a risk, but not a high one. The Sabres have a guy named Derek Grant in the lineup who has struggled to put up any kinds of points. You have to wonder if general manager Tim Murray would give Rattie a shot.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
