I think it’s safe to say that Derek Roy had an off year this past season for Buffalo. In 80 games, the centerman had just 44 points (17 G, 27 A) and was a -7 on the year. Those aren’t great numbers for Roy.
Roy has hit at least 60 points four times in his career, all of which were consecutive years. He only played 35 games during the 2010-2011 season, ending his streak. Then, this past year, he put up 44 points in 80 games.
This October, Roy will be entering a contract year, with a cap hit of $4M.
At this point in his career, how much more can we get from Roy? Even If he does have a better season, would Buffalo be better off keeping him or trading him?
