Baptiste records hat trick in 6-3 loss

Nicholas Baptiste was the catalyst in the Sabres’ 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday in the first game of the Prospects Challenge.

Baptiste had a game-high of seven shots on goal and connected twice in the second period and recorded a hat trick by scoring his third with under two minutes remaining in the contest.

“Any time you’re in front of Sabres brass and they’re watching, it’s important to show what you can do. I thought I did that tonight and hopefully I can continue throughout camp.” – Nicholas Baptiste

That would be all of the scoring for Buffalo, and even though the shots were even at 30, the Devils controlled the game by scoring four straight goals in less than 10 minutes of game time.

Linus Ullmark was in goal for all of it, allowing five goals on 29 shots, while the other goal was an empty-netter.

Devante Stephens, Brycen Martin, Brady Austin, Vaclav Karabacek and Eric Cornel each recorded an assist on the night.

Brandon Gignac paved the way for the Devils as he registered two goals and an assist. Four other players recorded two points for New Jersey.

Here is a video recap of the game:

The Sabres get the day off as the Devils and Bruins will play each other. Buffalo and Boston will compete on Monday in the final game of the Prospects Challenge. Both of these games have a 7 p.m. puck drop and Monday’s game can be heard on ESPN 1520.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
