Early Defensive Setbacks

The regular season starts on Thursday but the Sabres already have a couple of injuries on their blue line.

Zach Bogosian is apparently not even close to joining the team. It’s frustrating to hear for a player who has dealt with numerous injuries in the past. Bogosian played in 65 games for Buffalo last year, but just 18 the season before that. This will be his sixth season with the Sabres.

What may be a bigger deal is that Brandon Montour is weeks away from any contact. He was originally expected to miss training camp, but it sounds like he could be out much longer.

These two injuries have helped John Gilmour earn a spot on the starting roster. It’s a good thing Buffalo had so many defensemen earlier this offseason because they are already down two.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
