5 Down, 1 To Gold

Only one more match remains for the Americans, that will be on Sunday against either Canada or Slovakia. The U.S.A. has won all five games they have played and have a chance to win the gold medal.

The Americans made is look easy against Finland on Friday, scoring six goals in the opening period en route to their 6-1 win.

Ryan Malone began the scoring for Team USA two minutes into the first when he took advantage of a Mikka Kiprusoff mistake. That was just the beginning of the scoring onslaught by the Americans.

Within 11 minutes, the USA scored six times with goals from Zach Parise, Erik Johnson, Paul Stastny, and two by Patrick Kane. Kiprusoff was pulled after allowing four goals on seven shots.

Head Coach John Torterella elected to give Miller the last ten minutes of the game off. Miller earned some rest while Tim Thomas made his first appearance of the tournament.

Finland finally got on the board late in the third after a shot went off of Jack Johnson and past Thomas for the goal. That was all they would get.

Both teams finished with 25 shots, but the Americans will now move one to the final round as Finland will hope to win the bronze.

In the five games Miller has played, he has allowed only five goals. U.S.A. will play the winner of Canada and Slovakia for the gold medal.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
