Around the NHL: Games to Watch

The NHL has some interesting games scheduled over the next couple of nights. With the playoffs quickly approaching, many teams are battling for position. Here is a look at some of the top advertised games this week:

Tonight, the Bruins will head to Atlanta to take on the Thrashers. Atlanta trails Boston by one point for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. It’s an important game for both teams, but the Bruins have won the first three meetings, outscoring the Thrashers 14-7.

Over in the Western Conference, the Phoenix Coyotes have won nine straight games and are tied for first with Chicago. The two teams will meet tonight for the Conference lead. However, the Coyotes have won all three meetings this season.

Tomorrow night, Pittsburgh and Washington will square off again. Sidney Crosby vs. Alex Ovechkin brings a ton of anticipation for this matchup. The last time they played, the Capitals were in the mix of a 14-game winning streak and stormed backed from three goals down to win in overtime.

In the Northeast Divsion, the Sabres have a great chance to extend and secure their lead. They will host Montreal and Ottawa. Two losses will allow both teams to catch the Sabres, who are third in the Conference.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
