On Friday night Sabres hosted the Los Angeles Kings at HSBC arena. The first period of play was dominated by the Kings. Luckily, the Sabres only trailed by one going into the second period. The lone goal scored in the first period was by the Kings captain, Dustin Brown, who scored on a wrist shot that he recieved from Anze Kopitar.
The second period started with a bang as the Sabres tied the game up at one. Patrick Kaleta scored the ting goal with assists by Andrej Sekera and Nathan Gerbe. Wayne Simmonds answered back with a wrister to take the lead back for the Kings at a score of 2-1.
Peter Harrold picked up the assist on Simmonds goal. Thomas Vanek scored his seventh of the season that tied the game up after a blast from the point by Derek Roy. The goal came on the power play where Vanek had a beautiful tip that put the goal top shelf past Jonathan Bernier in net. The second period came to a close at a 2-2 tie.
The Sabres put on the offense in the 3rd period with a goal from Tim Connolly as he pounded home the 3-2 lead in the crease. Thomas Vanek picked up his 2nd point of the night with an assist and Jason Pominville was credited with an assist as well.
The Sabres then scored later with a slapshot from Jochen Hecht that sealed the deal. The Sabres won the game 4-2 and made it their 3rd straight win at home. A very impressive win to say the least against the 2nd place Kings. Miller was very impressive as he stopped 34 of 36 shots in his sixth win of the year.
