Buffalo Sabres’ GM Darcy Regier has been busy so far this off season and it isn’t even July yet. The Buffalo Sabres announced today that they have resigned 6’2″ 215 lb. Right Winger Drew Stafford to a multi-year contract extension. The Sabres commitment to the 25-year-old is being reported at 4 years for $16 million dollars. If he continues to perform at the level he did this season one would be able to call this a very reasonable contract.
Last season Stafford set career highs in goals with 31 and points with 52 in 62 games. He also recorded a goal and 2 assists in the team’s 7 game playoff run. In 5 seasons with Buffalo he has 94 goals and 102 assists. In 20 career playoff games he has three goals and four assists.
It appears Buffalo is committed to finalizing deals with their organization before July 1st so they can concentrate on free agent signing and trades. Stafford was Buffalo’s biggest name RFA. They still have Andrej Sekera, Nathan Gerbe, Chris Butler, Mike Weber and Marc-Andre Gragnani. Buffalo has also recently reached entry-level agreements with 2010 1st rounder Mark Pysyk and local prospect Marcus Foligno. They have also extended an offer to grinder Riley Boychuk.
Expect more deals to get done before the July 1st deadline and keep checking back here to find out the latest.
