We’re just days away from the regular season starting in Europe, and I couldn’t care less about the preseason.
I was expecting the Sabres to make a trade before the season started, but after watching a few preseason games just because they were on tv, I no longer think that the center is necessary.
The Sabres have strengthened their defensive core and now have one of the deepest in the league. With those kinds of players on the back end, I’m not sure that the Sabres need a #1 center.
Buffalo allowed five goals in the first four games of the preseason. I’m aware that they are exhibition games and those can often mean nothing, but if the Sabres can play the well defensively when the regular season starts, the team is set.
“Offense sells tickets, defense wins Championships,” is a quote I often hear. I wonder if Terry Pegula had that in mind over the summer. He doesn’t even need any more offense to sell tickets. Look at what he’s done to the entire city of Buffalo.
Ryan Miller and Jhonas Enroth are going to have competent defensemen in front of them, resulting in fewer goals being allowed. They are just going to feed off each other, and I think the Sabres can have one of the meanest groups on the blueline.
