SHC Announces Upgrades, Improvements

Sabres Hockey is just about here, and SHC has been improving over the summer and preparing to provide fans with even more coverage. Not only that, but we have strengthened many parts of the site and think you will be excited to see them. Below is a list of all the improvements that have taken place since last season. Take a look:

Full Standings- SHC will now be keeping track of NHL standings by division and by conference. These standings will be updated on a nightly basis. Here are links to the pages by division and by conference.

Stats Central- This is for those of you obsessed with stats and numbers. You will be able to view in depth Sabres statistics all year round, and we have broken them down into four categories. These will be up by the end of the week (team, skaters, goalies, career).

New, appealing layouts for game previews and recaps- Rather than a bunch of text on a page that, we’re providing you with stats, photos, and videos to enhance the pages.  You’ll have to wait until Friday to see these pages, but I promise, they will look much nicer.

New, appealing schedule and results page- We have improved the look of our schedule page. Simple as that. Click here to check it out

Live blog during games– Yes. Many have told us that the site is not updated quick enough during games. That will no longer be a problem. We will have a post on the front page during each game, updating the score and telling you what is happening.

Player pages- a page dedicated to each player’s career. Throughout the 2011-2012 season, SHC will take a look at each current Sabres player and put their career on a page. Each page will include bio, videos, photos, stats, and a wallpaper. (Gerbe’s has been published already)

Updated and improved cap central page- We have come up with a much nicer way to display the salary caps for each player. Click here to check it out.

Editorial Schedule- This is for anyone who wants to know what SHC will be posting and when. We are aiming to have something at least every day this season, and you are welcome to view it at any time. Click here to see it.

Monthly trivia contests– This is something new we are looking to try out in October. On the 26th, at 9:00 p.m., we will be holding the first trivia contest. It is free to play and prizes have not yet been determined, but fans will have the chance to answer a series of Sabres trivia questions to win a prize. More info will be posted in the next couple of weeks.

Improved staff pages- If you’re interested in learning more about the writes for Sabres Hockey Central, the staff pages are being redesigned. They are all expected to be done in the next week or two. If you hover over “staff” in the menu bar, you can see some of the ones that have already been completed.

Week in Review- This is something that we started doing last year, and have improved for this season. Every week, SHC will break down the past seven days, but in a simple, easy to read, chart format. You will be able to see the first one on Sunday.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
