The Sabres announced today that Jason Pominville is the new captain. Paul Gaustad, Drew Stafford, Thomas Vanek, and Derek Roy will all be assistants.
Pominville is a solid option and should serve well as the team’s captain. He was the Sabres “iron man”, playing 336 consecutive games without missing any time.
That all ended when he was checked into the boards from behind by Nicklas Hjalmarsson, suffering a concussion. He still managed to finish the season with 18 goals and 30 points in 57 games.
Pominville is signed through the next three seasons and is the 3rd highest player on the Sabres roster, behind Miller and Vanek.
