Debate: The 1-3-1

The Tampa Bay Lightning were utilizing the 1-3-1 defense against the Philadelphia Flyers, applying no pressure and trapping the Flyers defensemen. Philadelphia stood in their own zone and waited, but no player from the Lightning came down and applied pressure, leaving the game in a stand still.

Finally, the referee whistled the play dead. Should the NHL outlaw zone defenses? Please vote and leave a comment at the bottom of this page.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
