What We Learned From February

Just when it looked like the team was going to bottom out, the Sabres put together a couple of strings of wins.

Buffalo went 7-3-3 throughout the month of February, helping them inch closer to the 8th place spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Sabres went to a shootout five times, winning three of them. After a 3-3-2 start to February, the Sabres found themselves 15th in the Conference.

From there, the Sabres really pulled it together, earning nine of the final 10 points to close out the month. That span of games included Pittsburgh, Boston and the Rangers, three of the East’s top teams.

What we learned from February is that this team will not give in. Buffalo struggled for most of the season, and have not gave up on earning a playoff spot.

Darcy Regier traded acquired Cody Hodgson, who should only improve this team even more down the stretch and in the future.

Ryan Miller has been playing out of his mind, and makes some fans look silly back when there were debates on who should be the number one goaltender.

The Sabres now head in to March, and have already shutout the Sharks by a 1-0 score to begin the month. Four points out of the playoffs and a generally healthy team could assist the Sabres in the playoff push.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
