Sulzer Re-Signed for Next Season

According to CapGeek.com, the Sabres have resigned Alexander Sulzer to a 1 year deal worth $725,000.

Sulzer played in 15 games for the Sabres after coming from Vancouver, along with Cody Hodgson, in the Zack Kassian trade. Sulzer put up eight points (3 G, 5 A) in 15 games with Buffalo.

Sulzer has yet to play anything close to a full season. The most games he’s played for one team in a single season is 31 for Nashville back in the 2010-2011 campaign.

It would be interesting to see what he could do if he was given a chance to play a full season in the NHL. He may have to beat out Mike Weber, Brayden McNabb, T.J. Brennan and Joe Finely in order to get a spot on the blue line.

All of the Sabres defensemen are signed for next season, so the only way to free up room is by trading this summer, or putting someone on waivers.

Sulzer will turn 28 on May 30th.

UPDATE: At 1:46 PM, the Buffalo Sabres confirmed the CapGeek report.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
