The Rochester Americans beat writer Kevin Oklobzija passed along some breaking news just a few minutes ago.

Szczechura spent 9 games with the Sabres last season, scoring 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists).
His presence may not be missed in Buffalo as much as it will be missed in Rochester with the Amerks.
With the Amerks, Szczechura tallied 46 points (21 goals, 25 assists) in 57 games.
The departure of Szczechura will not only leave a big hole for the Amerks at center, but it depletes the depth that the Sabres have at the position.
According to Bill Hoppe, this move to the KHL was not a move that had just been discussed in the past few weeks.

If the Buffalo Sabres decide to qualify an offer to Szczechura, who is currently a restricted free agent, the organization will retain his rights for the AHL/NHL. No public decision regarding that move has been made.
