This afternoon, HARBORCenter Development LLC. broke ground HARBORCenter.
Set to open in September 2014, HARBORCenter will be a state-of-the-art hockey and entertainment facility, which will be located directly across the street from the First Niagara Center.
The $172 million project will two NHL size ice rinks, a hotel, two-story restaurant, street-level retail space and an 850-space parking garage.
With three ice rinks in such a close vicinity, the Sabres will be the first NHL team with this luxury. The main ice rink will hold 1,800 spectators, which tie it for the largest spectator capacity in Erie County.
“In the two years since I purchased the Buffalo Sabres, the passionate support of our fans has made it evident that hockey is woven into the fabric of this community in a way that is rivaled by few other areas,” said Sabres Owner Terry Pegula. “With HARBORcenter, our goal is to create a destination representative of that passion which will transcend the sport, helping to build downtown Buffalo into a place that visitors can’t wait to come back to again.”
