Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit Red Wings
Datsyuk’s name has become synonymous with this award. He is a 3 time winner of the Lady Byng (2007-10). He is a potent offensive threat, however never forgets his most important role in playing defense in his own zone. He managed a +21 rating this season, which lead the Red Wings. His 49 points (15 goals, 34 assists) also lead Detroit. Datsyuk is a hunter of sorts when his doesn’t have the puck, looking for every opportunity to disrupt the opposing team offensive rushes. He was tied for the league lead with 56 takeaways, and blocked 30 shots. Datsyuk finished with a faceoff win percentage of 55.7%. If he wins the award, Pavel Datsyuk would be only the second four time winner next to Bob Gainey who won the award the first four years it was awarded.
