Sabres name Sacco assistant coach

saccomadJust a few hours after Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier stated that head coach Ron Rolston was a mere “days away” from hiring his top assistant, the Sabres announce that former Colorado Avalanche coach Joe Sacco has been hired to fill the role.

Sacco, who spent the last four seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, compiled a career record of 130-134-30 and led the Avs to the playoffs in the first year of his tenure. Sacco was also named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award in that first season.

He also coached Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2013 IIHF World Championships.

Sacco will begin his role immediately, joining Teppo Numminen and Ron Rolston behind the bench.
