The Buffalo Sabres entered the final week before the Olympics, looking to build some momentum before their two week break.
Unfortunately for the Sabres, a build in momentum was not in the plans.
Buffalo began their week against the 29th place Edmonton Oilers. While the game was hard fought and interesting throughout, Buffalo was unable to overcome self-inflicted adversity and lost 3-2.
The second game of the week featured Buffalo against the Pittsburgh Penguins. From the opening faceoff, the Sabres were outmatched. Pittsburgh clearly had more talent and more drive in this game. Buffalo fell into an early hole and was unable to dig their way out. The game would end up being 5-1 Pittsburgh.
On the next night, Buffalo looked for their first win of the week. The Sabres would fall behind 2-0, but came back in the late stages of the game. While the clock was ticking down towards overtime, Ottawa would score the go-ahead goal with less than half a minute remaining. Buffalo would lose, 3-2.
After going winless in their 19th week of hockey, Buffalo sits in 30th place with a 15-34-8 record and 38 points. The Sabres still boast a league-high -62 goal differential, while scoring a league-low 110 goals.
