Buffalo’s road trip stops in Washington

Main storyline: The Buffalo Sabres (19-41-5) have lost 3 straight games, and look to snap that skid in Washington. The Sabres take on a Capitals (35-21-10), who lost their last game. 

Season series: Tonight’s game is the second of three between these two teams. In their first matchup, Buffalo defeated Washington, 2-1. These teams will meet again on March 16 at the First Niagara Center, to wrap the season series.

Where they stand: Washington currently has a 6 point lead over Boston in the Wild Card chase. The Capitals also have two games in hand. Buffalo remains in 30th place, with a 4 point cushion over 29th-place Edmonton.

Recent performance: Buffalo is 3-5-2 in their last 10 games; Washington is 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.

Buffalo notes: Goaltender Chad Johnson is likely out for the remainder of the season. Buffalo recalled to Matt Hackett, to take his place. This afternoon, forward Mikhail Grigorenko and goaltender Andrey Makarov were returned to Rochester (AHL). 

Opponent notes: Forward Alexander Ovechkin is said to be a game-time decision, with a lower-body injury. Ovechkin missed practice Friday, but did skate Saturday morning. If Ovechkin is out, expect Andre Burakovsky to take his spot in the lineup.

Conclusion: Puck drops shortly after 7 PM. The game will be broadcast on MSG, and can be heard locally on WGR 550.
