Sabres recall Ruhwedel, Lieuwen

Lieuwen

The Buffalo Sabres have called up two players from Rochester – defenseman Chad Ruhwedel and goaltender Nathan Lieuwen.

Ruhwedel hasn’t played for the Sabres since he made his NHL debut in the 2012-13 season. He’s having a great season for the Amerks with 22 points in 46 games. The 25-year-old will have an opportunity to see some playing time.

This is Lieuwen’s second recall of the season, but never saw any action the first time. He has gone 14-10-1 with a .911 save percentage and a 2.86 goals against average this season. Lieuwen went 1-4 with the Sabres during the 2013-14 season, recording a .906 save percentage and a 2.98 goals against average.

With games on each of the next two nights and Robin Lehner day-to-day, Lieuwen could very well start in goal soon.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
