of the Buffalo Sabres of the Arizona Coyotes during an NHL game on December 4, 2015 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York.

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe was one of 12 players named to the U.S. World Championship team. Other players who will represent the United States include Nick Foligno, Noah Hanifin and odds-on favorite No. 1 overall draft pick at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Auston Matthews.

Buffalo’s Sam Reinhart and Ryan O’Reilly have been selected to play for Canada. Last year, Team Canada went undefeated, winning its first gold medal in eight years. Some of the other players selected include Connor McDavid, Taylor Hall, Matt Duchene, Max Domi, and Brad Marchand.

The puck officially drops in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, on May 6. Canada, the defending world champion, faces the United States in the opening match. The gold medal game will be played on Sunday, May 22 in Moscow.

A pre-competition camp and pre-tournament game will be played in Prague, Czech Republic.

I've been a Sabres fan since my first game in the Aud in '76 against the Habs. I sat in the lower golds for that game and though I've been to close to 400 games, I've never sat as close as I did that night.
