Sabres to host Canadiens in home opener

The National Hockey League released the home openers for each team on Monday. The Sabres will host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, Oct. 13.

While the team is calling it the “home opener,” it may very well be the season opener.

The Canadiens took three of the five meetings last season, including the last two. This is the first time that the teams will meet in the opener since 2009, when Buffalo fell 2-1 in overtime. They also met the year prior, with the Sabres winning in a shootout.

The Sabres are 21-17-6 in home openers.

The rest of the regular season schedule is expected to be released at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
