Free agency has passed, but there’s still one guy the Sabres are looking at. After trading a third round pick for his rights, Buffalo spoke with Jimmy Vesey about why they need him and what he would mean to the team.
However, Vesey has stated that he plans to wait until at least August 15 so he’ll be eligible to talk with other teams.
Vesey talked with Joe Haggerty of CSNNE on Wednesday and reiterated that the plan is still in place.
“I’m going to August 15th as I’ve said all along. It’s been a couple long months since my season ended. August is right around the corner. I can’t wait for August 15th to come so I can meet with some teams.” – Vesey
It’s with no disrespect to Buffalo as the 23-year-old is just weighing his decisions and staying true to his word. Vesey said it was a really good meeting with Buffalo and that he felt really comfortable there.
However, there are other teams that draw his interest. One of them being the team he grew up watching.
“Boston is definitely on my list of teams that I would like to talk to. It’s a team that I’ve rooted for my whole life and watched them win the Stanley Cup in 2011. I was a huge Joe Thornton fan growing up. I’ve got to know Torey Krug a little bit from playing with him. It’d be fun to play with him and put on a Bruins jersey because I’ve been watching them my whole life.” – Vesey
Vesey also confirmed that he has narrowed down the teams to a short list.
“I’m going to try to weigh all my options and make the best decision,” Vesey said.
We’ll have to wait at least another month to see where Vesey will sign.
