screen-shot-2016-09-21-at-9-05-00-amThere was some sad news that came about Tuesday night.

Don Stevens, the play-by-play man for the Rochester Americans reported that former Sabres defenseman Richie Dunn has died.

Dunn was only 59 years old and played nearly 500 NHL games through his career. He made the Sabres’ lineup in 1979 and played several seasons. In his best year, he scored seven goals and 42 assists for 49 points. He also played for the Calgary Flames and Hartford Whalers.

Dunn totaled 176 points (36 goals, 140 assists) in his career.

Dunn remained in Western New York following his hockey career and was always gracious with his time at local charity events. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Richie.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
