The difference maker

Eichel

#EichelMania is back!

It’s like the start of a brand new season and the Buffalo Sabres are 2-0.

It has only been two games, but it’s clear that Jack Eichel does make a big difference.

We discussed how big of an impact No. 15 would have when he returned, and we’re already seeing just how much of a factor he can be.

Here’s a look at his three goals from this past week:

He’s not going to single-handedly win games on a nightly basis, but just having him in the lineup makes his teammates better.

The Sabres were struggling to put the puck in the net for the first 21 games of the season, and that’s putting it nicely.

Since Eichel has returned, the team has put up nine goals in two games. Eichel has already racked up four points and stole a win away from the Rangers on Thursday.

It was his first game of the season at KeyBank Center and it was a memorable one.

“It was great to be back here, to be able to win and being able to contribute makes it sweeter,” Eichel said. “You want to be consistent, do this night in and night out, just try ways to contribute.”

The goaltending hasn’t even been great in the last few games, and yet it’s overlooked. Anders Nilsson has come up with some timely, big saves, but the Sabres have allowed seven goals in the past two games. However, they’ve won both.

It may be easy to underestimate how much one player can impact a hockey team, but with No. 15’s potential, Sabres fans won’t make the same mistake again.

Hockey is back. Let’s enjoy it!
