Sabres getting new jerseys for 2017-18

With Adidas becoming the official jersey manufacturer of the NHL this year, we will see many uniform changes across the league to incorporate the three stripes. While teams won’t be changing their primary logo or entire color schemes, the Sabres may have a different look to them.

One of the biggest changes that could be made for Buffalo may involve going back to their original royal blue color, instead of the current navy blue. The above photo was created by @RJSportsEdits and is an example of the color change. There is another concept from Chris Fortier on Icethetics here:

The Sabres made their navy blue jerseys the official home jerseys prior to the 2010 season, but it hasn’t brought them much look. They’ve missed the playoffs in six of seven years. With the royal blue jerseys from 1970-1996, the Sabres missed the playoffs just seven times.

While the new uniforms may not be that extreme, the rumor and hope for a color change back to royal blue could actually happen. The new jerseys are expected to be announced before the Draft, which takes place on June 23.

The Sabres are also expected to have a special Winter Classic jersey for the game against the New York Rangers on January 1, 2018.

With the team’s 50th anniversary coming in 2020, they may also be exploring options for a third jersey as well.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
