Jack Eichel blasted a one-timer from the left faceoff dot 90 seconds into overtime to give Buffalo a 2-1 win Monday night in Alberta. JACK EICHEL WINS IT FOR THE SABRES! 2-1! pic.twitter.com/f0fdyqITte — NHL Daily 365 (@NHLDaily365) January 23, 2018
After Ryan O’Reilly won an offensive zone draw, Eichel slid a pass to defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen who returned it for the 21-year old’s 12th game-winning goal of his career. “We came out against one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now. I thought we just competed and gave ourselves a chance to win. Obviously our goaltender was our best player.” – Jack Eichel Chad Johnson made 32 stops in a brilliant effort, posting his first win since October 15 in Anaheim. One of Johnson’s best came at the end of the 1st period with the score tied at one apiece. Flames superstar Johnny Gaudreau found himself with the puck cutting to the middle of the ice. Gaudreau got off a clean backhand to the far side, but Johnson turned it away with the right pad to keep the game tied. Scott Wilson scored the other Buffalo goal, his second in a Sabres uniform. The score came on the shift after Matthew Tkachuk’s power-play goal opened the scoring, a quick response from Buffalo. Wilson converted on a Flames defensive zone turnover, picking up the puck in the center of the ice and beating goaltender Mike Smith with a quick wrist shot. Buffalo’s win snapped a two-game losing streak after their week off of play. Calgary was stop number one on the Sabres’ three-game Canadian road trip. They travel to Edmonton next to play on back-to-back nights. Puck drop is slated for 9 p.m. from Rogers Place.
