The Sabres announced that they have re-signed defenseman Casey Nelson to a two-year deal, with a cap hit of $812,500 each year.

Nelson hasn’t played much in the first few seasons of his NHL career, but in the 37 games he played this past year, he showed flashes of potential as he became a bright spot on the blue line.

He’ll turn 26 in July and will get a shot this season to prove his worth. If he can replicate his efforts, or even improve them, he would solidify a spot on the 2nd or 3rd pairing.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
