Antipin headed to KHL

After playing for the Buffalo Sabres for one season, Victor Antipin has elected to continue his hockey career in Russia.

In 47 games with Buffalo last season, Antipin tallied 10 assists, 18 penalty minutes and a -9 rating.

Our take: This is not much of a loss for Buffalo, especially with the Rasmus Dahlin expected in blue and gold. Antipin played just over half the season, but never really got a fair shot. He was a healthy scratch on several occasions and dealt with some injuries as well.

When he was in the lineup, his play wasn’t anything special, but it wasn’t bad either. Antipin would have had to battle for a roster spot again in September. At 25 years old, he had a chance to prove himself in North America, but him heading home gives Buffalo one fewer decision to make come training camp.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
