Report: Dunleavy inks new deal

The Buffalo News reported that Dan Dunleavy has signed a multi-year deal to continue doing play-by-play for the Buffalo Sabres.

The company also noted that Rick Jeanneret is leaning towards returning, but would like to cut out more of the road trips, so the two broadcasters will most likely split the schedule.

Our take: This is great news for Sabres fans. It’s nearly impossible to follow up Jeanneret, but Dunleavy has done a tremendous job, and also understands that RJ is here as long as he wants.

With over 40 years of broadcasting, RJ has just one thing missing from his resume, but the Sabres have a seemingly long way to go before getting there.

Hopefully Dahlin’s arrival can help turn things around, but regardless, we’ll get a chance to enjoy both RJ and Dunleavy again this season.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
