The Sabres have signed one of their 2017 draft picks in goaltender Ukko Pekka Luukkonen.

He just turned 19 years old in April but has been impressive in Finland for the past few seasons, and could remain there for a little while.

Our take: We likely won’t see him in the NHL this year, but there’s a chance he could push for playing time starting with the 2019-20 season. He could use the experience and still needs to improve in some areas before he’s ready to bring his game to North America.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
