The cardiac kids struck again and extended their winning streak to nine games after a 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.
Jeff Skinner and Tage Thompson led the charge offensively while Linus Ullmark was recording a highlight reel film in net all night long. Sam Reinhart finally ended the game with a slick backhander in the 7th round of the shootout.
The Sabres power play showed some signs of life against the Detroit Red Wings going 2-4 on the night. Jeff Skinner opened the scoring for Buffalo who now has 18 goals on the season. Detroit fought back all game long and would counter each Buffalo goal in regulation.
With their 9th straight win, your Buffalo Sabres now sit in 1st place in the entire NHL! If this doesn’t put a smile on your face, not much else will. With the extra point, Detroit stays within 3 of a wild card spot.
As mentioned above, Skinner continued his insane goal scoring streak. He “coincidentally” found himself in the perfect position for a rebound off of a Jack Eichel shot that Jimmy Howard couldn’t quite handle.
Tage Thompson is a very good hockey player. After a slow start to the season that had many calling for a demotion to Rochester, Tage Thompson has looked like the player Jason Botterill knew he was when trading for him in the O’Reilly deal this summer. On the power play in the 2nd period, Rasmus Dahlin sent a perfect feed to Thompson who was camped up at the top of the off-wing circle and wow did he rip it!

Tage didn’t stop there, he also had this shootout goal to keep the game alive! This kid has some serious hands.
Tage Thompson had to score, or the game was over.

A round of applause for Linus Ullmark ladies and gentleman. While stopping 33 of 35 shots through overtime, he also made 6 of 7 shootout saves! When is the last time our goalies have been good in the shootout? Almost every other save was a beauty for Ullmark who can’t seem to lose on Saturdays.
Housley: "I have to give credit to the guys and that's everyone who have played through this six games in nine nights. I thought special teams would play a factor tonight…we won that war…I give a lot of credit to Linus…to make those breakaway saves were big" #Sabres

The Detroit Red Wings have a good young hockey team who will only get better. Dylan Larkin was a bright spot for Detroit last night as he seemed to create scoring chances every time he was on the ice. While he did score Detroit’s first goal, he was kept off of the scoresheet for the rest of the game thanks again to a few big saves from Ullmark.
With two days until their next game on Tuesday night against the San Jose Sharks, the Buffalo Sabres will get some much needed rest before going for the big 10 in-a-row at home!
