There was only one goal scored in Wednesday night’s game – Dallas’ Jamie Benn scored 8:39 into the first period, and that was the end for the Sabres. It seemed like all the action was played in the first period, especially on Buffalo’s end.
This is the first time the Sabres have been shutout since their season opener against Boston.

It looked as if Buffalo would tie it up in the third period but the ‘goal’ by Marco Scandella was called off after goaltender interference was ruled against teammate Nathan Beaulieu. Phil Housley challenged the call but it was upheld.

Housley on the challenge: “I just saw a guy going to the net and he’s trying to avoid contact, he gets pushed into the goalie at that point. I thought it was a good challenge; it could’ve gone either way."

Benn had a chance to create a two-goal deficit in the first minute of the second period, but Linus Ullmark kept Buffalo alive with a timely save.
Bishop had 30 saves, his third shutout of the season, while Ullmark had 27.
Buffalo fell to three points behind a wildcard spot and continue to search for a second consecutive win since December. In order to bounce back, Buffalo must solve its offensive woes.
Next, the Sabres will host the Chicago Blackhawks in a Friday night matchup. Friday night will mark the beginning of Buffalo’s seven-game homestead to begin the month of February.
