Sabres fail to win against Senators

Buffalo was handed their thirteenth consecutive loss on the road by the Ottawa Senators in form of a 4-0 shutout. The Sabres (31-36-9) have not won on the road since a 5-4 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 29. Craig Anderson made 35 saves in his second shutout of the season and 42nd of his NHL career. Carter Hutton made 27 saves for Buffalo, who lost for the 11th time in their last 12 games.

Anthony Duclair scored first with a backhand shot at 17:07 of the first period. Brian Gibbons followed up at 19:49 with a redirected slap pass from teammate Christian Jaros to make it 2-0. Although the Sabres looked better in the second period, as the score remained 2-0. In the third, Rudolfs Balcers scored on the power play at 5:54 by tucking the puck under Hutton’s right pad to make it 3-0. Magnus Paajarvi sealed the victory for Ottawa at 7:24.

Both teams have already been eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff hopes. The Sabres return home to face the Detroit Red Wings at 7pm on Thursday.
