Sabres fire Phil Housley

Shortly after the Florida Panthers fired head coach Bob Boughner on Sunday morning, the Buffalo Sabres relieved Phil Housley of his coaching duties.

Under two seasons with Housley, the Sabres finished with 62 and 76 points, both not nearly enough for playoff consideration.

It’s a move that had to be made with how poor the Sabres played following the 10-game winning streak.

Up next for the Sabres is to find a replacement. Chris Taylor may be a good bet to fill the role, but we’ll wait and see who else comes up in conversation.

The results in the second half just weren’t there. Our fans expect more and we expect more. Were are all responsible for the success and failures.

“Coaches need to take blame, players need to take blame, management needs to take blame. We didn’t give Phil enough tools, enough players…”

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
